What Are Your Choices?
The terms and options associated with senior housing can be confusing. For example, some providers offer an option called Assistive Living. While somewhat helpful, Assistive Living does not offer the same level of care as Loretto's licensed Assisted Living programs. Also, Loretto is the only Assisted Living provider in this area that accepts Medicaid reimbursement as payment for services. Residence in Loretto's senior housing can be paid through private funds, private insurance or Medicaid, once private resources have been exhausted according to Federal and New York State law. How can you, or your loved ones, determine the level of care needed at this stage of the aging process? The following descriptions will aid your understanding and preparation for this important discussion with senior healthcare professionals. Independent Living is for healthy, active adults who no longer want to live on their own. They may elect to pay for extras such as meals, laundry, housekeeping or personal care assistance. Enriched Housing offers meals, morning and evening personal care supervision, daily bed-making, weekly laundry and housekeeping services, medication reminders and overall care management. Residents will also have a Lifeline Emergency Response System in their rooms. Adult Home services are very similar to those of Enriched Housing. Assisted Living offers all of the above plus 24-hour staff support to assist with medical intervention and activities of daily living. Many older adults who enter nursing home care, for a specific ailment or finite period of time, find they can transition to Assisted Living once the medical issue has been addressed.
